Movin for Music...not cliche

So you want to move here to try the music scene?  Considering getting a job in the local restaurant industry and meshing with the singer/songwriter community?  Ready to sacrifice for a shot at your dream?

Count me among the few who think it's a good idea (if you are actually good)...I'll tell you why.  First of all, Nashville breeds talent.  Although I haven't done it myself, I am told that you will find out whether or not you make the cut relatively quickly (matter of months instead of years).  If you don't make it, it's up to you as to whether you pursue getting better or finding a new track amongst Nashville's many other industries.

Another reason why it's a good idea?  There's affordable housing - you can find roommates and rentals quickly amongst the many others with the same dream.  So, plan it properly and you may just find a spot downtown for a couple hundred dollars a month.  That will put you within minutes of Music Row and the legendary hotspots where you can mingle with the industry.

There's many more reasons, but I don't have much more time...will leave you with this - its better than living the rest of your life wondering 'What if'...

  1. No one has to tell me Nashville is the greatest city on the plannet. I have wanted to move there even before I had a desire to play my hand at country. I do have some unfinished business at home before I can try the venture. I want to compete in my local country showdown this summer. Last I competed and got the biggest applause from the crowd and the lowest score from the judges. In have since been writing and have a loyal following on Youtube, in fact someone has put up a tribute site to me.

I am 31 but look and feel much younger. I am single and no kids or relationship which would make the move even easier.

I would need a regular job as a safety net. It might be hard landing an entry level job with a master's degree to my name, but my profession is teaching and jobs in that industry are dwindling. On the other hand it might not be a problem.

I am hoping that in the interval between now and the showdown I can budget the time and money to drive to Nashville to try to get on Tootsie's stage and see how that goes. Maybe I could make some aquantences while I am at it who could be potential roommates. I do have a cousin down there who I met the first time last summer. I welcome any extra advice.
